In Memoriam
Eleven long years without you now
I've learned to live with loss
But time will never nullify
The daily pain & shock
Of waking knowing you are gone
Though memories have not
You were so vibrant, full of life
A flower blooming fair
From earliest childhood beautiful
With blue-green eyes so rare
Our lives were filled with aughter then
You didn't have a care
You loved your music, drama, dance
Your Grandma & your friends
I think of when you used to do
A cartwheel with one hand
Determined, as in all you did
To see it to the end
I gave you roots my precious child
And wings that you might fly
And fly you did, despite the fact
That epilepsy tried
To curb your independent plans
And curb your love of life
Undaunted, you soon left the nest
And studied far from home
Then travelled further to the south
To job and world unknown
And there you made so many friends
How popular you'd grown!
Death had wrecked our lives before
With Grandma, Grand-dad, Dad
Your courage helped me through those times
I treasured what I had
But now you've left me, understand
That memories make me sad.
I look upon your lovely smile
So simply dressed in black
I think about the words you read
Before God took you back
And pray He'll also carry me
Then nothing will I lack
Susan
